WELCOME TO NRS FARM & SANCTUARY
RACEHORSE RESCUE, REHAB AND RETIREMENT… ONE HORSE AT A TIME
If helping an off-track thoroughbred enjoy lifetime security sounds like a good idea to you, welcome to NRS Farm.A new division of Lucky Horse Equine Rescue
, our unique program is specifically designed to provide lifetime care and education to ex-racehorses so they can be happy, active and contributing members of the equine community, even after their
racing career is over.We achieve this through personalized, quality care and training based on natural horsemanship philosophies and through the generous support of people like you. Why these horses need your help North America is the largest breeder of thoroughbreds in the world, with over 70,000 actively racing thoroughbreds at any given time. Nearly 40,000
thoroughbred foals are registered each year. Sooner or later, though, all those horses' racing days come to an end. Then what?
Tough economic times have resulted in a drastic reduction in available homes. Previously thoroughbreds enjoyed a great deal of popularity in the hunter/jumper
world. Unfortunately, they have been gradually replaced with warmbloods so that door is slowly closing as well. While there are still many horse enthusiasts
interested in these beautiful animals, new owners often become discouraged by the complexity of re-training an off-track thoroughbred—a commitment that
requires more time, experience and funds than many potential owners can offer. Finally, potential soundness issues result in these horses being passed over and
each year we are left with too many horses and nowhere to place them. Sadly, many of these regal animals end up gracing the tables of France, Belgium,
Japan, Italy, Switzerland and several other countries for human consumption. Despite the closing of slaughter plants in the U.S., thousands of thoroughbreds get
shipped out of the country to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada each and every year. Their terrifying journey includes crowded trailers, extensive travel
times, and lack of food and water. Many arrive at the plants injured or worse. You can see why off-track thoroughbreds desperately need your help. Please help
NRS Farm save America's tossed aside off-track thoroughbreds... one horse at a time.
